BREAKING NEWS: Caligiuri Wins Republican Nomination with 67% of the Vote!

“This is a very humbling moment for me, my campaign, and my supporters. I have enjoyed the spirited race for the Republican nomination, and I appreciate the process each of the delegates went through to make their decision. While I have been taking the fight right to Chris Murphy from the beginning of my campaign, I am thrilled to be able to continue this fight as the Republican nominee to face Congressman Murphy in November. There is no greater task than enacting a pro-jobs economic policy and restoring fiscal responsibility to Washington. Chris Murphy and Nancy Pelosi have been advancing the wrong policies for the Fifth District and our state, and I look forward to listening to and sharing my vision for a brighter future with voters throughout the District,” said Caligiuri.

Bethel RTC Reverses Endorsement, Now Backing Caligiuri

With less than 24 hours to go before the Republican convention, Sam Caligiuri’s grassroots support continues to surge. Tonight, the Bethel Republican Town Committee voted to reverse their endorsement of Justin Bernier, and has instead voted to support Sam Caligiuri. Bethel’s eight delegates to the convention are committed to voting for Sam. The town committee joins Bethel State Senators Toni Boucher and Michael McLachlan, and State Representative David Scribner in endorsing Caligiuri. This news comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that Caligiuri has earned the support of a majority of convention delegates.

Caligiuri Endorsed by Entire Southbury Delegation

The Caligiuri Campaign announces today that Sam Caligiuri, Republican candidate for Congress (CT-05), has picked up enormous support amongst Southbury Republicans with a straw poll win amongst delegates, and with the endorsements from First Selectman Bill Davis and RTC Chair Jeff Krizan. The entire Southbury delegation (comprised of 11 delegates) has committed their support for Caligiuri’s nomination at the May 21st convention. The delegation joins State Senator Rob Kane, and State Representatives David Labriola and Arthur O’Neill – all of whom represent Southbury – in endorsing Caligiuri.

State Senator Rob Kane and State Representative Arthur O’Neill Endorse Caligiuri

Waterbury, CT – Today the Caligiuri campaign announces that State Senator Rob Kane and State Representative Arthur O’Neill have endorsed Caligiuri’s candidacy for Congress in the Fifth District race. Sam has now earned the endorsements from each Republican State Senator representing towns in the Fifth District, and 13 of the 15 Republican State Representatives. Senator Kane represents the towns of Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Middlebury, Oxford, Roxbury, Seymour, Southbury, Thomaston and Woodbury. Representative O’Neill represents Bridgewater, Roxbury, Southbury and Washington. Kane and O’Neill are also delegates to the Republican convention on May 21.

New Britain and New Milford RTC Chairs Endorse Caligiuri

New Britain RTC Chair Dwight Blint praised Sam’s ability to win in a heavily democratic district. “In New Britain, we know how difficult it is to win when the registration is stacked against you. Sam has done that time and time again in his State Senate district, and that is what we will need to win in November – broad appeal to unaffiliated voters and even democrats. I am proud to support his nomination as our strongest candidate,” said Blint, who is in his first term as Chairman.

Roger Szendy, New Milford RTC Chair, also focused on Caligiuri’s record as a proven winner. “All of the candidates in this race are on the same page about the need for fiscal responsibility, and bringing the much needed change to Washington. But only one candidate has ever run – and won – a race. Only one candidate has a record on the issues that gives him real credibility. That candidate is Sam. When looking at what we need in our nominee, the ability to win is what ultimately matters, and Sam has proven that ability time and time again,” said Szendy. This is Szendy’s first term as Chairman of the New Milford RTC, although he has been a member for 18 years. He has also served on the New Milford Town Council for the past ten years.

Kie Westby Exits Fifth District Race, Endorses Caligiuri

In ending his campaign and deciding to back State Senator Sam Caligiuri’s bid for the nomination, Westby explained that, “Sam has my full support, and putting my faith in him was an easy decision. He is our likely Republican nominee for good reason – he has run an incredibly strong campaign, has a real record of fiscal conservatism and government reform, and has been an honest and straightforward candidate. In a year when we can beat Chris Murphy, I feel that it is of critical importance to unify behind our strongest candidate going into the convention, and that candidate is Sam. Sam is a proven winner with a solid record of achievement.”

Sherman Republican Delegation Endorses Caligiuri

Adding to a growing list of delegates that are supporting Sam Caligiuri, the entire Sherman Republican delegation announces today that it has endorsed Caligiuri. Those delegates to the May 21 convention are:

George Linkletter, Sherman RTC Chair
Eric Holub, Sherman Town Treasurer
Art von Plachecki, Sherman Former First Selectman

Caligiuri Wins Newtown Straw Poll

The Caligiuri Campaign announces today that Sam Caligiuri, Republican candidate for Congress (CT-5), won a critical straw poll conducted by the Newtown Republican Town Committee on Wednesday night. As the Newtown Republican Town Committee has a policy of not endorsing candidates, results of their straw polls are the best measures of support for candidates. In addition to winning the straw poll, Caligiuri has earned the endorsement of Newtown Republican State Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, State Representative DebraLee Hovey, and former State
Representative Julia Wasserman. Newtown sends 14 delegates to the Republican convention in May.

RTC Joins Roxbury First Selectman Barbara Henry in Supporting Caligiuri

“Sam is the experienced leader we need in order to win in November. I have known him to be a man of integrity who is unafraid to stand up for what he believes. He is the kind of leader we need to send to Washington,” said Roxbury First Selectman Barbara Henry.
